NFL Features Who Wins Super Bowl LV February 7. 2021

After a crazy fourth quarter finish to Super Bowl LIV, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs rally from 20-10 down with under seven minutes to go in the game to win 31-20, one would think the Chiefs would come into the 2020 season as the favorites to repeat, right?

Well, they are; but they have some company.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken away all of the NFL preseason games, but let’s be honest: they are glorified scrimmages anymore. The real action gets underway on Thursday, September 10, as Kansas City hosts Houston in a rematch of the AFC Divisional contest from January. That will be the first chance many bettors will get, followed by the weekend Week 1 games, to figure out which teams look like contenders in 2020.

The Favorites

The Kansas City Chiefs, in any other season, would probably have come into the year as at least the lone favorite, if not an overwhelming one. They are loaded all over the field on offense, led by 2018 NFL MVP, and Super Bowl LIV MVP, Patrick Mahomes. He led the fourth quarter comeback to defeat the 49ers last season, 31-20, and just signed the richest contract in NFL history (10 years, $503 million) which should keep him as the franchise QB for the next decade.

But the Chiefs are not even the lone favorite to win the AFC, let alone Super Bowl LV. The Baltimore Ravens, led by 2019 NFL MVP QB Lamar Jackson, went 14-2 in the regular season last year before falling in the AFC Division round to Tennessee. Both the Chiefs and Ravens are +600 to win the Super  Bowl, and +300 to win the AFC. 

I doubt any other team in the AFC can knock off both of those teams in back to back weeks.

The Contenders

The San Francisco 49ers won the NFC title last year, and are the third pick at +800 (+400 to win NFC again) to get back and win the Super Bowl. But losing Super Bowl teams have not done well since the Buffalo Bills went to and lost four straight title games in the early 1990s: only the New England Patriots, who beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in 2019 after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018, have got back to the Super Bowl in the last 27 years.

New Orleans is +1100, but the Saints seem to have some bad luck in the playoffs of late. Tampa Bay, with Tom Brady under center, could be a sleeper team in the NFC.

Super Bowl LV Predictions

Despite the fact that there are probably only a handful of teams that can legitimately lif the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 7, 2021 in Tampa Bay, there are very good odds for each of those top contenders.

Kansas City or Baltimore (both +600 with William Hill promo code) would be my pick barring any major injuries, as I think the Super Bowl loser’s curse could strike the 49ers. The NFC is wide open, but what a fairy tale ending to the season it could be to see the greatest to have ever done it, Tom Brady, leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1400) out of his new home tunnel at Raymond James Stadium, looking for a seventh title.

However, it is really tough to see past either the Chiefs or Ravens winning the title, and you will get a good return on your money if either win.
