UKGC Publishes Data Collection Consultation Results, Amends Licensee Reporting

United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has officially published the outcome of the data collection consultation and is ready to implement new measures for standardization of collected data starting from October 31st.

A number or suggested changed were discussed and UKGC vowed to make data requirements more efficient for licensees.

No “One Size Fits All” Policy

The 12-week-long consultation yielded 70 responses…

…and 50 of them came from license holders, seven from trade associations, three from non-profit or charity organizations, six from the public and remaining four from miscellaneous respondents.

The standardized template for reporting was created by The Commission.

UKGC said:

“We recognise that, in many instances, licensees will want to undertake due diligence to investigate the nature and scale of a potential breach. We do not, for this reason, think it practical to impose a ‘one size fits all’ time limit on reporting issues of known or suspected offences.”

Another amendment involved removing and simplifying a big amount of the data license holders needed to report. That included aggregate non-Britain revenue data instead of breaking this down by game and sport.

Commission’s representatives added:

“Overall, respondents welcomed the reduction in datapoints and commented that streamlining our data requirements would improve operational efficiency for licensees.”

Changes Looming This Fall

A proposal for creating new licensing conditions was also suggested by the Commission…

…applicable to land-based casinos that will be required to report systematic or organized money lending.

UKGC representatives said that this change was received positively but that some respondents asked for terms like systematic or organized money lending to be defined.

Operators will be required to report any data breaches that affect the confidentiality of customer data, or stops their staff or clients from entering their accounts for longer than 12 hours.

24 house were required previously, but this was reduced.

Some other changes include losing the operators’ requirements to notify the regulator of any people that they have authorized to offer football or on-course horse racing pool betting.

Respondents agreed with this, noting that it will streamline and expedite data collection and not reduce oversight.

All of these changes will become effective on October 31st.

UKGC added in a statement that “our objective in making these changes is to improve visibility of a licensee’s licensed status for consumers of remote gambling products, supporting our work to keep gambling fair and safe. Standardisation of the form of displayed licensed statuses will also enable us to better use data tools when we carry out compliance activity to check the licensed status of a gambling website or mobile application.”
